New Delhi : Mild tremors were felt in Delhi in parts of Northern India after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan. The tremors were also felt in the neighbouring nation, Pakistan.

"Earthquake of Magnitude:6.1, Occurred on 11-01-2024, 14:50:24 IST, Lat: 36.48 & Long: 70.45, Depth: 220 Km, Location:  Afghanistan," said National Center for Seismology in a post on X.

The epicentre for the earthquake has been located at 241 kms from north east of Kabul.

In the initial reports, there were no casualties or injuries due to tremors.

Soon after the tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR and Northern India panic was seen among people with some posting their videos on social media. In the videos, people can be seen horrified with the shaking buildings and furniture inside it.

For the unversed, earthquakes are common in Afghanistan, in the West and centre region of the country. The earthquakes are mostly caused by the Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates jutting against each other.
