Entire situation along border with China under control: Army Chief

New Delhi : Days after reports of tension getting escalated at the China border region in Eastern Ladakh, Indian Army Chief has claimed that "entire situation along China border in now under control." He mentioned that recent talks between the two sides have resulted in "a lot of disengagement" and that "all perceived differences that we (India and China) have will be set to rest".

"I would like to assure everyone that the entire situation along our borders with China is under control. We're having a series of talks which started with Corps Commander level and has been followed up with meetings at local levels between commanders of equivalent ranks," General Naravane was quoted by news agency ANI.

"As a result, a lot of disengagement has taken place and we are hopeful that through the continued dialogue we're having, all perceived differences that we (India and China) have will be set to rest," the general added.

Meanwhile, the two sides held Major General-level talks, which lasted over four hours, on Wednesday. Sources said the Indian side pressed for restoration of status quo ante, reiterating that troops should move back to the positions held in April-end, before the standoff began.

In Beijing, asked about reports of troops on both sides disengaging and moving back to their previous positions, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told a media briefing that both the countries are taking steps to ease the situation along the borders.

“Recently, the diplomatic and military channels of China and India held effective communication on the situation along the border and reached positive consensus,” she said. “The two sides are following this consensus to take actions to ease the situation along the borders,” she added.

On Monday, China had said that both the countries take measures in a way that differences do not turn into disputes.
