Fact Check: Did protesters storm White House against George Floyd's death?

Washington : Massive protests were triggered after the brutal death of African-American George Floyd due to excessive use of force by a police officer in Minneapolis. Several videos are being shared on the internet on how to flash mob protesters are damaging stores, looting them and also thrashing government properties.

Amid this a video is also being shared on the internet showing how some of the protesters are creating ruckus outside the White House; some even smashing glasses in the corridor. The building, with white pillars at the entrance, has a dome atop it, and the US flag can be seen fluttering.

The video is being shared with claims that the protesters broke into White House. Facebook page Products and Services Promotions posted the video with the caption, “First time In History- Protestors Broke into the White House for the First Time in American USA History.”

News Heads tried to dig deep to check the reality and found that the claims made in the video are misleading. Yes, it is correct that some protesters have been held near the White House building. But the building appearing in the video is the Ohio Statehouse and not the President’s residence and workplace in Washington, D.C.

Using reverse search, we found that several netizens have shared the video, claiming it is the Ohio Statehouse.

American news website Fox8 (https://fox8.com/news/ohio-statehouse-was-damaged-during-protests-surrounding-george-floyds-death/) also carried a similar video in an article published on May 29. According to the article, the protest seen in the video erupted in the statehouse in Ohio’s Columbus on Friday after George Floyd’s death.

So, it establishes that the building in the video is not the White House.

According to reports, US President Donald Trump was rushed to a White House bunker as protesters threw stones and tugged at police barricades nearby.

Protestors also torched and vandalised a 200-year-old church near the White House.
