Los Angeles : Remember the Hollyweed sign that was changed by some prankster on the New Year night, well he has surrendered to Los Angeles police.

City officials have said that the prankster who altered the iconic "Hollywood" sign in Los Angeles to make it read "Hollyweed" has surrendered and charged with trespassing.

According to LA City Councilman David Ryu, the 30-year-old Zachary Cole Fernandez surrendered himself to Police on Thursday. "Pranks of this nature deplete the resources of our valuable public safety personnel."

He has been booked for trespassing and the punishment involves sentencing him for 6 months with a promise to appear in court on Feb. 15.

Ryu's office and jail records show that Fernandez did not damage the sign. The man simply used tarps to alter the letters and changed the sign to spread a message of "peace and love."

It was also noted that the act was done by Fernandez less than two months after California voters approved recreational use of marijuana in the state, despite a federal ban on the drug.

The act was done on New Year's Day when the residents of Hollywood Hills awoke to find "Hollyweed" staring down at them in four-story, white letters from Los Angeles' Mount Lee.

The frequently photographed "Hollywood" sign was first erected here in 1923.
