Imran Khan to take oath as Pakistan Prime Minister

New Delhi : Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan is set to take oath as Prime Minister of Pakistan on Saturday. He was elected 22nd Prime Minister in a vote in the country's National Assembly, three weeks after his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party won the highest number of seats in the general election.

Khan, 65, secured 176 votes out of the total 272 cast in polling in the lower house, while his opponent Shehbaz Sharif of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) got 96 votes, according to National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser.

From India, he had invited Navjot Singh Sidhu, Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev for the oath ceremony; but only Mr Sidhu has made it to Pakistan for the event.

Condoling death of former Indian Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Imran Khan had said the two countries could honour the veteran BJP leader's legacy by establishing peace between the two countries.

India hasn't responded to the statement but is looking to see if there is any concrete evidence of his intention to curb terror activities.
