Mosul : Raising demands of compensation, families of 39 Indians killed by Islamic State in Iraq held silent protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday officially announced killing of 39 Indians in Iraq's Mosul by the terrorist group Islamic State.

"Deep penetration radar confirmed that all Indians were dead after all bodies were exhumed. It was too difficult to search our people in Iraq, thanks to VK Singh for his support, and the Iraq for the help." Swaraj had stated in Rajya Sabha.

Speaking to ANI, Gurpinder Kaun, sister of Manjinder Singh, who was among the 39 Indians killed in Iraq, refused to stage violent protests against the government, instead opting to ‘sit peacefully’. “We won’t do a violent protest, we’ll just sit peacefully. Union government hasn’t contacted us yet. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has not replied to us even after repeated attempts to contact and meet her, ” Kaur alleged.

The 39 Indians were abducted by the Islamic State during evacuation in Mosul. Most of them belonged to Punjab in India.
