New Delhi : Israel has become the first nation in the world to give a booster COVID vaccine dose to fully vaccinated people above 60 years of age.

The country’s health ministry said that people above the age of 60, who got both the doses at least five months back, will be offered a third dose from this Sunday, according to a Hindustan Times report quoting local news agency Haaretz. Israel has given the first dose to at least 64% of the population.

With this announcement, Israel became the first nation in the world to do so.

The move has been announced with motive to stop spread of Delta variant of coronavirus in the nation.

A third shot has already been given to over 4,000 people with compromised immune systems and there were no signs of side effects, Haaretz quoted an expert as saying.

Meanwhile, some of the experts have alarmed Health authorities and asked them to wait a little more as there is very less data available on the side effects which may come up due to the third dose of coronavirus vaccine.
