JD Vance in Delhi amid US tariff war, to discuss trade deal with PM Modi

New Delhi : US Vice-President J D Vance will be visiting Delhi on Monday on 4-day visit to India. He will be hosted by PM Shri Narendra Modi at dinner.
At the dinner cum meeting, Mr Vance, who will be there with his family including Indian-origin wife Mrs Usha Vance, is likely to discuss tariffs and trade deals with PM Shri Narendra Modi. He is likely to push India to buying US Defence equipments.
Vance, wife Usha and their three children — Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel — are scheduled to land at the Palam airbase at 10 am on Monday, where they will be received by a senior Union minister.
It has been learned that around five senior officials from Pentagon and the State Department will be accompanying Mr Vance for his India visit.
This will be the first time when Mr Vance will be visiting India after assuming the charge of Vice President; this comes at a time when the US is putting up tariffs across the world, however, it is on a pause for about 90 days.
Hours after arriving in Delhi, Vance and his family are expected to visit the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in the Capital, and may visit a shopping complex selling traditional hand-crafted goods.
Later in the evening, at 6:30 pm, Vance will meet Modi at the PM’s 7, Lok Kalyan Marg residence for official talks. The focus of the meeting is likely to be on early finalisation of the proposed bilateral trade pact as well as ways to boost the overall trajectory of ties between the two countries, sources said.
PM Shri Narendra Modi will be accompanied by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra for the talks, followed by dinner.
On Tuesday, the delegation is expected to visit several historical landmarks, including Amer Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, Vice-President Vance is scheduled to deliver an address at Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur, according to sources.
On Wednesday morning, US Vice-President and his family are likely to travel to Agra to visit Taj Mahal. Their itinerary also includes a visit to Shilpgram, an open-air emporium that highlights a diverse array of Indian handicrafts and cultural artefacts. They are expected to return to Jaipur later that evening.
