Lakhvi release: Tit-for-tat Pakistan summons Indian envoy

  • New Delhi : Pakistan on Friday issued a summon to Indian Deputy High Commissioner in Islamabad

  • The Islamabad court credited India’s intervention to Pakistan High Court order to release Mumbai Blast mastermind as unwarranted and immature.

  • It also mentioned that New Delhi has failed to provide significant evidences that prove Lakhvi guilty in the case.

  • A tit-for-tat action came hours after Pakistan High Commissioner in New Delhi Abdul Basit was summoned by officiating Foreign Secretary Anil Wadhwa.

  • Anil Wadhwa strongly opposed the release and said this would cause a significant threat to security which cannot be ignored at any cost.

  • A senior foreign office official told media that Pakistan wanted to try the accused but India has failed to provide any evidence.

  • Islamabad also expressed displeasure over the manner Basit has been summoned by Indian Authorities.

  • The Pakistan side also raised questions over the 2007 Samjahuta Express blast case.

  • The Islamabad High Court suspended the detention order of Lashkar-e-Toiba operations commander Lakhvi and ordered his immediate release.
