New Delhi : Pakistan has resorted to strict action against illegal refugees and Afghan citizen cardholder in the country by issuing an ultimatum to leave the country by March 31, 2025. Pakistan Interior Ministry has said that those individuals who do not follow the orders will be deported from April 1, 2025 onwards.

In the past couple of years, Pakistan has been continuously blaming Afghan people in Pakistan for terrorist attacks near the border regions. However, Afghanistan has been denying the blames completely. The Interior Ministry has said that the nation is a responsible country and a generous host but individuals residing in the nation must comply with all legal formalities.

In 2023, Pakistan had launched a massive operation to evacuate foreign nationals, which had a majority of Afghan people. Later, the country issued a statement and said that foreigners without legal documents will be evacuated first.

According to United Nations data, over 800,000 Afghans in Pakistan hold Afghan citizen cards. Approximately 1.3 million people are formally registered with the Pakistani government and have separate residence permits.

Due to conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan, over 28 million people from Afghanistan have become refugees in Pakistan.
