Rare Pink Star diamond auctioned in Hong Kong

New Delhi : A rare diamond - Pink star - has set new world record in the history of auctions. The rare gemstone has been sold in Hong Kong for more than $71m (£57m) at an auction.

The oval-shaped 59.6 carat stone was sold within five minutes of the auction. The gemstone had earlier came for an auction in 2013 in Geneva. It was sold for $83m but later the buyer defaulted and it remained unsold.

Now that when it has been auctioned, Oppenheimer Blue takes the second spot in the list of costliest gemstone auctioned.

Oppenheimer Blue was sold for $50m last May.

The incredibely beautiful and rare Pink diamond has been bought by a Hong Kong jewellery retailer Chow Tai Fook Jewellery.
