PM Modi, President Trump to meet today on G7 Summit sidelines: Discussion on Kashmir likely
NH Bureau : Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the United States President Donald Trump will be holding a meeting on Monday on the sidelines of ongoing G7 Summit, American official said.
The Prime Minister arrived in France's southwestern tip on Sunday evening from Bahrain on a personal invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron.
At the G7 Summit, he is scheduled to speak on environment, climate, oceans and digital transformation.
Soon after landing in Biarritz, the Prime Minister had his first bilateral meeting with Boris Johnson, the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
As per American officials, the US President would enquire PM Modi about his plans on Kashmir while ensuring that the human rights remain reserved.
We do expect the issue of India- Pakistan relations to come up. India s decision to rescind Article 370 in Kashmir is an internal decision, but certainly with regional implications. And President Trump will likely want to hear how Prime Minister Modi intends to calm regional tensions in light of this significant move, a US official said in a background briefing in Washington DC, details of which were released on Saturday.
2 Summit days, 2 days to provide concrete responses to inequalities undermining our societies.

It is likely that Donald Trump may press PM Modi to go for a dialogue with Pakistan to resolve the ongoing tension.
