PM Narendra Modi enlists measures to counter terrorism

New York : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday attended the UN meet to discuss 'Strategic Responses to Terrorist and Violent Extremist Narratives' in New York, where he suggested the institutionalisation of "counter-terrorism cooperation at the multilateral level."

"PM Modi suggested institutionalising counter-terrorism cooperation at the multilateral level. PM Modi said that terrorists should not be allowed to get funds and arms. For this objective to be realised, we need to avoid politicisation of mechanisms like UN listings and FATF [Financial Action Task Force]. #UNGA," a tweet by ANI quoted Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) secretary (West) Gitesh Sharma as saying.

In another tweet, quoted by the news agency ANI, Gitesh Sharma says that "the PM called for qualitative upgradation in the ongoing cooperation and intelligence sharing through bilateral and regional frameworks. #UNGA #NewYork."

"He [PM Modi] said a terrorist attack, anywhere in the world should be considered as terrorism, not good or bad terrorism. #UNGA#NewYork," Gitesh Sharma added.

Apart from the summit, PM Modi also held a couple of bilateral meetings with several world leaders and reviewed bilateral ties. He also met UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore.
