Post export ban, Bangladesh PM Hasina gave up on onion in food

New Delhi : India's onion export ban has impacted the kitchens in Bangladesh, including the one of PM Sheikh Hasina, as she urged the Indian side to inform them prior to such decisions.

She said that India's sudden decision to ban onion export impacted her directly as she asked her cook not to use onions in the food.

"I don’t know why you stopped onion (exports). So what I did was, I told my cook to not to use onion in food…Prior notice of such decisions would help. Suddenly, you stopped and it became a difficulty for us. In future, if you are taking such a decision, prior information would help," she said in a lighter vein.

Hasina was addressing the India-Bangladesh Business Forum here. Last week India had banned the export of onions to make them available in the domestic market. The Centre has also imposed stock limits on both retail and wholesale traders for onion. She said huge potential exists in Bangladesh for Indian business community.
