Shameful! Cart toppled as 12-year-old egg vendor refuses to pay the bribe

New Delhi : A video showing Indore civic staff toppling the cart of a 12-year-old egg vendor has gone viral on the social media. It has been learned that the official got anguished after the boy refused to pay him Rs 100 as bribe.

The incident took place on Wednesday at Piplyahana square in the city and the action taken against the minor vendor by the employees and officials of the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) was part of the civic body’s ongoing drive of seizing the roadside hawkers’ handcarts amid the pandemic.

The 12-year-old boy has been identified as Paras Raikwar. He mentioned that by selling eggs he used to earn his living.

Talking to reporters after the incident, the Class VII boy said, “They (civic officials) asked me to remove my handcart from spot saying there was no permission for it. Then they pushed the cart, following which the eggs fell to the ground and were broken.”

After watching the strong criticism by people over the incident, a PR officer of the IMC informed that the drive has been suspended for now.

"After strong objections by the public representatives over the Piplyahana incident, the ongoing drive of seizing handcarts in the city has been stopped till further orders."

According to rules announced during the coronavirus pandemic, the handcart pullers are prohibited to stand at one place as it may lead to overcrowding, increasing the risk of coronavirus transmission.
