New Delhi : Twitter on Friday imposed a permanent ban on the US President Donald Trump, who alleged that the social media platform is conspiring with his political enemies "to silence him."

"Twitter has gone further and further in banning free speech, and tonight, Twitter employees have coordinated with the Democrats and the Radical Left in removing my account from their platform, to silence me -- and YOU, the 75,000,000 great patriots who voted for me," he said in a series of tweets from the official @POTUS account.

The posts were later deleted swiftly.

Meanwhile, Twitter explained that they are banning Donald Trump's account as it contains a risk further violence following the assault on the US Capitol by his supporters.

"After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account," Twitter said in a blog post explaining its decision, "we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence."

Earlier, the company had imposed a ban of 12 hours on him after violence by his supporters at the US Capitol.

On Thursday evening, Donald Trump shared a video message which was aimed at calming the situation with a mention that he is focusing on smooth transition to the new government. But later he posted two more tweets in which he said that none of his supporters will be 'disrespected'. Twitter tagged them as the violation of its policy under "Glorification of Violence Policy", following which the company decided to suspend his account.
