Sher Bahadur Deuba elected New Prime Minister of Nepal

New Delhi : Sher Bahadur Deuba was on Tuesday elected as the next Prime Minister of Nepal, returning to the post 12 years after he was removed from the post by then King Gyanendra. He succeeded former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ who had resigned last month.

Prachanda resigned as per a consensus between the two major parties.The ruling parties - Nepali Congress and CPN(Maoist-Centre)- Prachanda entered into an understanding according to which Prachanda was supposed to quit the top post for the NC President to lead the coalition government.

Modi congratulates Deuba

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called up Nepal's Prime Minister-elect Sher Bahadur Deuba to congratulate him and convey his best wishes for the country's progress.

"Called Shri Sher Bahadur Deuba to congratulate him on being elected the Prime Minister of Nepal. I conveyed my best wishes to Shri Deuba for peace, prosperity and progress in Nepal under his leadership," Modi tweeted.
