Shocker! Trump praises Putin for 'very smart move' on US sanctions response
Los Angeles : In a shocking turn of events, President-elect Donald Trump on Friday gave thumbs up to Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin for not reacting against US decision of expelling 35 diplomats for allegedly interfering with the presidential elections.
Barack Obama administration on Thursday expelled 35 Russian diplomats and imposed other sanctions for allegedly hacking presidential elections.
Giving his approval, Trump tweeted, "I always knew he was very smart."
Soon, the Russian Embassy in the U.S. retweeted Trump.
On Friday, Putin rejected his foreign minister's proposal to give American diplomats the boot as payback. He, however, condemned Obama's move, which also included imposing sanctions on two suspected hackers and three companies that allegedly support the Russian GRU intelligence service's cyber operations.
Great move on delay (by V. Putin) - I always knew he was very smart!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 30, 2016
In December, US intelligence services accused Russia of launching cyber-attacks on the Democratic Party in the run up to the November 8 election thus resulting in the defeat of candidate Hillary Clinton.
So far, Russians have denied any involvement in the alleged hacking of Presidential elections but many Democratic and Republican lawmakers are convinced that Moscow crossed the line and support a strong response against the Russians.
