Delhi : The MD of Kia India, Tae-Jin Park, recently disclosed that the manufacturer was investigating several engine options, such as hybrids. The automaker may have already started working on electrifying its current petrol engines in India if the most recent claims are accurate.

The 1.2-liter and 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engines that are now offered in India are reportedly being developed by Kia into strong-hybrid variants. By 2025, the new hybrid powertrains should be on the road.

Several powerful hybrid vehicles, such as the Carnival and K8 sedan, as well as SUVs, such as the Niro, Sorento, and Sportage, are part of Kia's global lineup. They aren't the best for a price-conscious market like India, though, since they are driven by an electric motor and a 1.6-liter turbo-petrol engine.

In the future, models like as the Seltos, Carens, and Sonet will have hybrid alternatives thanks to Kia's introduction of its hybrid technology to India through the localization of the battery and motor components. Nonetheless, a new small SUV with the codename AY is rumoured to be Kia's first hybrid vehicle in India. It is anticipated to be situated halfway between Seltos and the Sonet.
