Delhi : In the next 12 months, India will receive a lot of new electric vehicles as the EV market continues to expand rapidly. Several automakers have already announced the release of their new electric vehicles in 2024. Some of these vehicles will enable big automakers enter the EV race in India, where EVs now account for less than 7% of total vehicle sales. Among the projected electric vehicles to arrive in India are Maruti Suzuki's first EV, the eVX, and the Tata Harrier EV, among others. Here's a short rundown of the fresh new electric vehicles set to debut in India next year.

Maruti Suzuki eVX

Maruti Suzuki, India's largest manufacturer, expects to begin manufacturing of its first electric vehicle, the eVX, in 2024. The company has announced that the eVX electric SUV, which was initially shown at the Auto Expo in January, would be built at Suzuki Motor's Gujarat site in Hansalpur beginning next year. It is scheduled to be released in 2024. The eVX electric SUV will have a range of around 550 km on a single charge. It will be outfitted with a lithium-ion battery pack of 60 kWh. When it is released, it will compete with vehicles such as the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona, among others.

Tata Harrier EV

Tata Motors has announced that the electric version of its flagship Harrier SUV, which just had a substantial redesign, will be available next year. The Harrier EV made its premiere earlier this year at the Auto Expo. The Harrier EV, which is based on the Gen 2 EV design, will include V2L and V2V charging capabilities. The Harrier EV has been sighted testing on public roads ahead of its expected introduction in the coming months. However, very little is known about the range, performance, and features of this electric SUV.

Tata Punch Electric Vehicle

The Punch is Tata's second electric car, which is set to launch in India next year. The carmaker's smallest SUV is already available in ICE and CNG versions. When it is released, it will be the fourth vehicle in Tata's portfolio to provide ICE, CNG, and EV variants of the same model. The Punch EV is believed to use the same Ziptron technology as previous Tata EVs such as the Nexon. The battery size might be similar to that of the Tigor EV or the Nexon EV. In the long-range variant, the Tata Punch EV could go more than 300 km on a single charge.

Tata Curvv EV

The Curvv EV is Tata Motors' third electric vehicle, set to be released in 2024. Tata is expected to release the EV version of the SUV after the ICE version. The Curvv EV will be built on Tata Motors' X1 chassis, which will be extensively redesigned to be EV ready. According to rumours, the Curvv electric SUV would have a range of 400 to 500 km on a single charge. It is unclear whether Tata Motors would utilise the same battery as the Nexon EV facelift.

Kia EV9

With the debut of its three-row electric SUV EV9, the Korean automaker is likely to extend its EV offering in India. The EV9 is more than five metres long and is built on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It claims to have a range of up to 541 km on a single charge. It is planned to come in two flavours. The EV9 is driven by a 150 kW electric motor that can propel it from 0 to 100 kmph in 9.4 seconds. The EV's RWD version will have a more powerful 160 kW electric motor. The EV features an 800-volt electrical design that allows it to charge at lightning speed. Kia says that the EV9 can go 239 km.

Mahindra XUV.e8

Mahindra & Mahindra will also expand its electric vehicle selection in India with the introduction of an electric SUV based on the XUV700. After the XUV400, this will be Mahindra's second electric vehicle. Mahindra displayed five forthcoming electric SUVs at a presentation in the United Kingdom last August. The XUV.e8 is scheduled to be released under the Born Electric brand and will have a twin electric motor as well as all-wheel drive technology. Mahindra is expected to include at least a 60-kWh battery pack with the XUV.e8 EV, as well as capabilities such as level 2 ADAS and 5G connectivity.
