New Delhi : The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline to link Aadhaar card with PAN card to June 30, 2023. It is mandatory for people to link their Aadhaar card with PAN card as it will help the authorities to curb tax evasion. If a person fails to link the card by deadline then his pan card will become inoperative.

There are also penal actions on the taxpayer if he or she fails to link their Aadhaar card with Pan card from July 1.

# No refunds will be issued to such PAN cards

# No interest will be paid to the inoperative PAN card holders account.

# TDS and TCS will be deducted at a higher rate, as provided in the Act.

# Rs 1000 late fees will be imposed on people to make their PAN card operative again within 30 days.

In case if you are wondering if your PAN card is linked with the Aadhaar card or not, below are a few steps to check it:

# Go to tax filing e-portal

# Click Quick Links then Aadhaar Link Status

# Enter PAN Card and Aadhar Card numbers

# The popup will tell you the status of link. If it is linked then it will read: "Your PAN is already linked to given Aadhaar". If not, then it will read: "PAN not linked with Aadhaar. Please click on 'Link Aadhaar' to link your Aadhaar with PAN".

The CBDT said that 51 crore PAN cards have been linked with Aadhaar till date.
