Lynching: Police fires on mob in Dimapur, 1 killed, Assam on high alert

Dimapur : Even after police stated that situation is under control a man, suspected to be in the mob who dragged the rapist out from jail and beaten him to death, was reportedly killed by a gunfire shot from cops end.

Meren Jamir, Superintendent of Police of Dimapur, said a total of four to five police personnel were also injured during the whole incident.

He also mentioned that curfew remained in Dimapur while the situation was under control.

Mr Jamir also justified why his team failed to stop the event by saying that mob was large in number and there were school students that succumbed the rapist to death.

Chief Minister TR Zeliang has ordered a high level enquiry on the whole matter.

Reporters also posted questions on the nationality of the rapist. Jamir said he cannot reveal this now as this is a matter of investigation.
