New Delhi : Aam Aadmi Party convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal received Interim bail till June, 1 from Supreme Court on Friday. He was arrested by Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in the alleged Delhi Liquor Excise Policy Scam. He has been asked to surrender himself before Tihar jail officials by June 2.

The Supreme Court also said that pleas over extending relief beyond June 1 will be heard next week; Mr Kejriwal’s legal team had sought bail till July, i.e. after the formation of new government.

While granting interim bail to Mr Kejriwal the Supreme Court said it is baseless to argue over other cases as "21 days will not make any difference."

"For one-and-a-half years he was there... he could have been arrested before or after (the election) also. Whatever it is, 21 days here or there should not make any difference," the court said.

The Supreme Court has cleared that the bail conditions will be similar to those imposed on the Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, who was arrested in October in connection to the same case and was granted bail in early April this year.

It is interesting to know that Sanjay Singh was allowed to participate in political activities like campaigning for his party. Mr Kejriwal is also expected to do the same once he’s out from jail.

Shortly after Mr Kejriwal also got bail, Mr Singh posted on X. "The truth can be troubled but not defeated. The decision of the Supreme Court is welcomed. The dictatorship will end and the country will see the wonders of Kejriwal... Satyamev Jayate (the truth will win)," he said.

The opposition leaders have also shared their joy over the news of Kejriwal’s release from jail. He is currently one of the heads of INDIA bloc.
