Maharashtra government to fix five days a week work office for employees

Mumbai : The state government employees in Maharashtra will soon be working only for five days in a week. The decision was taken at the state Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday.

The new system will come to effect from February 29.

Currently, the state government employees get second and fourth Saturday off from their work every month.

More than 20 lakh people work in Maharashtra in government, semi government and local body offices.

The Cabinet also decided that the state department for OBCs, SEBCs (socially and educationally backward classes), VJNTs (vimukt jati and nomadic tribes) and special backward classes will now be known as the 'Bahujan Kalyan Department'.
