Guru Kashi University student Rishabh Yadav wins gold at Archery World Cup

New Delhi : Rishabh Yadav, a young archer from Gurugram and an MBA first-year student from the Faculty of Commerce and Management at Guru Kashi University, has brought home a gold medal from the ongoing Archery World Cup in Urbandale, Florida, USA. Competing in the mixed compound event alongside teammate Surekha Vennam, the Indian pair edged out Chinese Taipei’s Huang I-Jau and Chen Chih-Lun in a nail-biting final, clinching the win by 153-151.

The Indian pair had a shaky start, with Chinese Taipei holding a narrow lead early on. However, Rishabh and Surekha found their rhythm in the latter half of the match. In the final moments, Rishabh and Surekha delivered two perfect shots that sealed the victory. On their way to the final, they also defeated strong teams from Spain, Denmark, and Slovenia.

Rishabh's achievement is being seen not only as a personal milestone but also as a reflection of the university’s growing focus on nurturing sporting talent alongside academics. While archery is still developing as a mainstream sport in many parts of the country, institutions like Guru Kashi University have begun investing more seriously in identifying and supporting young athletes.

Chancellor S. Gurlabh Singh Sidhu and Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Rameshwar Singh congratulated Rishabh and credited the university’s growing focus on sports for enabling such performances. “This win reflects the potential of student-athletes when they’re supported in the right environment,” said Dr. Singh.

Dr. Raj Kumar Sharma, Director of Sports, called the final a true test of composure. “They didn’t start strong, but their calm under pressure made the difference in the end,” he said.

Rishabh’s win marks a proud moment for both Guru Kashi University and Haryana, underlining the importance of nurturing sporting talent alongside academics.
