Ambedkar statue vandalised in UP, Yogi asks authorities to ensure securities

Allahabad : Unknown people on Saturday vandalised statue of B R Ambedkar in Allahabad village, triggering protests in the area.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asked authorities to increase security and ensure no such incident is repeated.

An official release issued in Lucknow said the chief minister has asked officials to take strong action against those responsibile for such incidents so that they do not vitiate peace and harmony. 

The damaged statue is being replaced on urgent basis with a case lodged against the culprits.

Uttar Pradesh Police has started investigating the matter with efforts to identify the men who vandalised the statue.

Domariyaganj MLA, Raghvendra Pratap Singh, who rushed to the village soon after the incident, alleged that it was a conspiracy hatched by the Samajwadi Party and the BSP and the culprits will not be spared.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to visit the district on April 2.
