₹3,000 FASTag annual pass launched: 200 toll-free trips on National Highways from August 15

₹3,000 FASTag annual pass launched: 200 toll-free trips on National Highways from August 15

New Delhi : In a major move aimed at simplifying toll collection and encouraging digital payments, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has announced a new Annual FASTag Pass for private vehicles, effective from August 15, 2025.

The pass, priced at ₹3,000, will allow non-commercial four-wheelers—such as private cars, jeeps, and vans—to make up to 200 toll-free trips on National Highways (NHs) and National Expressways over a one-year period.

Key Features of the New FASTag Annual Pass

Eligibility: Only for non-commercial private vehicles.

Validity: 1 year from the date of activation or until 200 highway toll transactions are completed—whichever comes first.

Coverage: Applicable only on National Highways and Expressways. Regular tolls will still apply on state or local roads.

Activation: The pass can be purchased via the Rajmarg Yatra app, NHAI, or MoRTH official websites starting August 15.

Recharging: Once 200 trips are exhausted, users can recharge or repurchase the pass within the same year.

The move is expected to benefit frequent highway commuters and help reduce long queues at toll plazas. The ministry claims it can result in savings of up to ₹7,000 per year for regular users compared to conventional toll charges.

Notably, this new annual pass does not require address proof, unlike existing monthly passes, making it easier for the average user to access. The new system is also expected to streamline traffic flow and reduce disputes at toll booths, especially on long highway stretches with toll plazas at regular intervals.

Speaking about the initiative, Minister Gadkari said the new system would promote ease of travel and boost digital infrastructure across the country's highways.

This announcement is part of a broader strategy by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to improve road user experience, encourage digital toll collection, and expand usage of the FASTag system, which is already mandatory for all vehicles on national highways.
