Data Protection Bill to become reality soon with Cabinet nod

New Delhi : The government on Wednesday approved a Personal Data Protection Bill that will ensure a proper way of handling the user data by public and private entities.

The decision has been taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar confirmed that the Bill will be introduced in Parliament during the current Winter Session. 

The Bill is likely to contain broad guidelines on collection, storage and processing of personal data, consent of individuals, penalties and compensation, code of conduct and an enforcement model.

Last week, IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has also informed about the bill in same regards, adding that India will never compromise on the personal data of the residents.
