Delhi breaths fresh as air pollution shows sharp decline

  • New Delhi : All thanks to breezing weather that the air pollution in Delhi has shown a sharp decline.

  • It’s just a coincidence that such results came at a time when government is trying its hand on odd-even formula to curb the pollution.

  • According to data released by System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), PM2.5 concentration reading on January 9 was 121 that is lowest since December 25, 2015.

  • On January 8, PM 2.5 level was at 225 and on January 7 it was 289.

  • The reason behind such sharp fall is yet to be analysed but weather seems to have contributed maximum in it.

  • Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) is still a concern in areas bordering Delhi as they are registered 6 times higher than what it should be.

  • AOD measures solid particles suspended in air due to human activities like transportation and construction.

  • Delhi government’s odd-even formula will end on January 15, 2016.
