Chennai : J Anbazhagan, a Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam passed away at a hospital in Chennai (Tamil Nadu) on Wednesday due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Unfortunately, he died on his 62nd birthday.

He was a close confidante of party leader MK Stalin and served as an MLA thrice during his life. J Anbazhagan was among the key strategists of DMK.

On Tuesday, Dr. Rela Hospital had declared the DMK MLA "very critical”, saying his existing kidney disease pared his chances.

He was admitted to the hospital last week after he complained of having troubles in breathing. Later, he tested positive for coronavirus.

On June 3, he was put on ventilator but his condition kept on deteriorating.

Anbazhagan represented Chepauk-Triplicane constituency in the city and had undergone a liver transplant about 15 years ago.
