Jammu floods: Modi asks officials to ramp up relief operations

  • Following a massive flood in Jammu, PM Modi directed officials to provide total support
  • The step has been taken in order to provide essential commodities quickly to the affected people
  • In a high-level emergency meeting on Wednesday evening Modi said basic necessities should be provided immediately to the affected people
  • He also asked Home Ministry to depute senior officials to look after the rescue operation in the state
  • Mr PM also emphasized on the hygiene and sanitation in the water logged area
  • Telecommunication restoration process has already begun and about 8000 landlines have been restored so far
  • In a national disaster, around 76000 people have been rescued so far by the armed forces and NDRF.
  • The Army has deployed more than 30,000 troops in the relief operations 
  • IAF has pressed 80 aircraft in action including the C-17 transport aircraft along with helicopters
