Maha Kumbh Stampede: Casualties feared as barrier breaks at Sangam
New Delhi : Several casualties are feared at Maha Kumbh where stampede like situation broke out on Wednesday. The situation came after a large number of devotees came in to take a holy dip on the auspicious occassion of Mauni Amavasya.
According to an official posted at the site, several people have been injured and shifted to the hospital after a barrier broke out at the Sangam. It is also feared that some of the pilgrims may have lost their lives in the incident.
It is expected that over 10 crore pilgrims will be coming to take the holy dip at Sangam on Mauni Amavasya.
It is worth noting that Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday asked devotees to take the holy dip at their nearest ghat instead of heading towards the nose of Sangam.
This year Maha Kumbh is being celebrated at Prayagraj (formerly known as Allahabad) with a special celestial combination that has occurred after 144 years.
