New Delhi : At least nine people were killed and one was seriously injured after a crane collapsed at the Hindustan Shipyard Limited complex in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday. The incident happened when load testing trials were being done on the crane.

According to a news report, four people were the shipyard employees and rest of the deceased were contract employees.

News agency ANI shared a small video clip that shows how crane collapsed within a matter of few seconds.


Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the Visakhapatnam District Collector and the city police chief to take immediate action, his office said.

Hindustan Shipyard Limited, located in the coastal city in Andhra Pradesh, is a government undertaking, involved in shipbuilding and catering to the needs of shipbuilding, ship repairs, submarine construction and refits as well as design and construction of offshore and onshore structures.
