No More Travel Woes: Special Bus Services to Bihar for Diwali and Chhath
New Delhi : Good news for Biharis living outside the state—celebrating festivals with family back home will now be easier. In a major move aimed at easing travel during festive seasons, the Bihar government has announced the launch of 299 AC and non-AC special buses. These buses will operate from key states, including Delhi, to various destinations across Bihar.
A Heartfelt Desire to Celebrate with Loved Ones
During major festivals like Holi, Diwali, and Chhath Puja, people from Bihar living across India yearn to return to their ancestral homes. However, due to limited availability of train and flight tickets, many are unable to make the journey—leaving family celebrations incomplete. Travel becomes especially stressful around Diwali and Chhath. To address this longstanding concern, the government is introducing these special buses to facilitate smoother homecoming journeys.
Easier Travel During Peak Festive Times
Thousands of people travel to Bihar during festivals from states such as Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and West Bengal. But the struggle to secure transport is real. With this bus initiative, the state government is taking concrete steps to simplify travel and enhance convenience for returning residents.
Cabinet Approval and Expansion Plans
The proposal received approval during the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on June 24, 2025. The state will invest ₹105.82 crore to purchase 75 air-conditioned and 74 deluxe buses. Additionally, 150 more AC buses will be deployed under a public-private partnership model.
Stress-Free Journeys Ahead
With this initiative, especially during peak festivals like Diwali and Chhath, travelers won't have to worry about transportation hassles. Buses from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and other major states will help residents comfortably reach their villages and celebrate with their families.
Special Trains on the Horizon
In parallel, the state will request the central government to introduce additional special trains during key festivals such as Holi, Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja. This measure aims to further ease travel for people returning to Bihar.
