Odisha: Stolen by monkey, 16-day-old infant found dead in well

Cuttack : A monkey on Saturday took away a 16-day-old infant from his home in Cuttack, Odisha. After a massive search operation launched by authorities, the baby has been found dead in a well.

According to a news report by Times of India, the dead body of newborn was recovered from a well in the backyard of the house.

The baby has been sent to a hospital for post-mortem.

According to the forest officers involved in rescue operations, the baby was sleeping with his mother inside his house when the monkey came in and snatched him.

The mother raised alarm soon after watching the monkey fleeing with her baby.

A forest department official engaged in the rescue operation said, "As the child has trouble crying, we cannot hear his voice. It has, therefore, become difficult for us to trace him in the forest."

In past couple of months, several people have reportedly been attacked by the monkeys in the area.
