Pepsi, Coca Cola allowed to use water from Tamil Nadu river

Madras High Court allows Pepsi, Coca Cola to use Tamil Nadu river water

New Delhi : In a major relief to soft drink makers Pepsi and Coca-Cola, the Madras High Court on Wednesday allowed them to use water from Tamil Nadu River.

Four months ago, the companies were asked not to use the water amid rising protests by the farmers, who claimed that both Pepsi and Coca Cola are using the water for commercial gains.

The companies, however, have stated that only surplus water is being used by them, which is in Tirunelvelli district.

In 2015, major clash had erupted over the usage of river water by the companies, leaving several injured.
