PM Modi pays tribute to former Prime Minister, Chandra Shekhar Ji on his birth anniversary

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to former Prime Minister of India, Chandra Shekhar on his birth anniversary. PM Modi said that Chandra Shekhar was a towering personality who was widely admired for his commitment to democratic values and efforts to remove poverty.

He shared his wishes on Twitter and wrote: "Chandra Shekhar Ji was a towering personality who was widely admired for his commitment to democratic values and efforts to remove poverty. He always worked for the welfare of the downtrodden and marginalised. Tributes to him on his birth anniversary."



Chandra Shekhar Sitaram Tiwari, also known as Chandra Shekhar Azad was born on 23 July 1906. 

Why Chandra Shekhar is called Azad?

On being presented before the Parsi district magistrate Justice M. P. Khareghat a week later, he gave his name as "Azad" (The Free), his father's name as "Swatantrata" (Independence) and his residence as "Jail".
