New Delhi : The WHO claimed 47 lakh deaths due to coronavirus in India, the government rejected the figure and reclaimed that only 4.8 lakh people lost their lives due to COVID-19 in the tri-colour nation. The Opposition party leader Rahul Gandhi attacked PM Modi over WHO's claim.

"Science does not lie, Modi does," Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet.

He also demanded that all the families who have lost their family member to COVID-19 must get a mandatory compensation of Rs 4-lakh each.

The Indian government has rejected WHO's claims over coronavirus deaths and said, methodology for calculating deaths is "statistically unsound and scientifically questionable".

According to a latest data shared by the health ministry, the coronavirus related death toll stands at 5.24 lakh.
