Seven die as helicopter crashes in Kedarnath

New Delhi : Seven people, including pilot of a helicopter, lost their lives in a tragic crash at Kedarnath. The incident happened near Garud Chatti on October 18.

A team of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has begun their probe in the accident, where bad weather is being suspected as the main reason behind the crash.

The chopper belongs to Aryan aviation company and it has been claimed that the bad weather led to the accident. However, a detailed investigation in the matter is on.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also ordered a separate probe in the helicopter crash that was condoled by the Prime Minister, the President and Chief Minister Of Uttarakhand among many others.

In the initial reports, it has been learned that there was dense fog in the area due to which the chopper collided with the hill. The accident killed six pilgrims.

Among the pilgrims who died are Poorva Ramanuj (26), Kruti Barad (30) and Urvi Barad (25) from Gujarat. The Gujarat government announced financial assistance of ₹4 lakh to the kin of each of the three deceased women.

“The families of the deceased from Bhavnagar will be given Rs 4 lakh assistance. The decision has been taken by Chief Minister Shri @Bhupendrabjp ji and the state government for which I thank them,” Gujarat Education Minister Jitu Vagahani tweeted.

Three pilgrims from Tamil Nadu who died in the accident were Prem Kumar (63), Sujata (56) and Kala (60).
