HD Kumaraswamy ready to quit as Chief Minister of Karnataka

Bengaluru : Amid political turmoil in Karnataka politics, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy claimed that he would happily quit from his post if the state is suffering due to any of his action.

In speech, moments before the trust vote, he claimed that he had no intention to drag the trust vote.

"The other day, a channel ran a story saying we are pushing for load shedding. CM was pushing the state into darkness. Should I have become the CM to get such a certificate? Today, I am ready to quit happily," Kumaraswamy said.

The speaker had strongly asked then to finish the trust vote process.

Meanwhile, Section 144 has been imposed in Bengaluru with a directive of shutting all pubs and bars till July 25. "Today and tomorrow we are imposing Section 144 across the city. All pubs, wine shops will be closed till 25th. If anyone is found violating these rules, they will be punished," said Bengaluru Police Commissioner Alok Kumar.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had moved the confidence motion on Thursday to decide the fate of the Congress-JDS government wracked by a rebellion by a section of its MLAs threatening its survival.

The debate on confidence motion stretched till Friday with the ruling coalition missing two deadlines set by the Governor Vajubhai Vala.

The proceedings were then adjourned till Monday on a promise by the government that they will prove majority by the end of the day.
