Radesh Singh 'first' Pakistani Sikh to contest for general seat

Islamabad : Radesh Singh Tony has claimed that he will become the first candidate from Pakistan's Sikh community to contest an election for a general seat on Wednesday.

"I am probably the first minority member in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa who is contesting the elections as an independent candidate," Dawn reported him as saying.

"Normally, members of our community are assigned tickets by political parties for reserved seats and not the general ones. Hence, I have decided to contest the elections as an independent candidate and try my luck," Radesh Singh Tony said.

The PK-75 candidate is a prominent member of the local Sikh community and the president of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's Pakistan Minorities Alliance.
