Migraine headache: Treatment possible via surgery, says AIIMS doctors

New Delhi : AIIMS doctors and the military hospital in Srinagar have found that surgery can be an option to treat migraine that affects nearly 20 per cent of the world population.

The statement comes after follow-ups with several patients who underwent migraine surgery.

A migraine is a typical health condition under which a patient experiences severe pain in either side of the head. So far, steroids are given for the treatment but they have their known side effects on the human body.

Doctors learned that nearly 46 per cent of the patients registered complete relief from the migraine pain post-surgery. Only 6.6% patients reported no improvement after a year of the operation.

The results from the test were published in the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, a monthly US journal.
