Super Blue Blood moon, Chandra grahan pictures pile up on Facebook, Twitter

New Delhi : As the world witnessed rare phenomenon of super blue blood moon in skies on January 31, people started flooding social networks like Facebook and Twitter with the pictures of Chandra Grahan 2018.

The super blue blood moon combined the blue moon, super moon, and total eclipse, all three being rare events. This was the reason moon appeared red as it crossed into the shadow of the Earth.

They say, last super blue blood moon was seen on December 30, 1982. Here is what people shared on the social media platform:

A "blue moon" is the term used when the full moon appears twice in less than 28 days, as it takes the moon 28 days to revolve the Earth. A blue moon happens on average just under every three years.

The reddish tint - which gives it the name 'blood moon' - happens due to "the effect of all the sunrises and sunsets all around the planet reflecting off the moon", said NASA astrophysicist Michelle Thaller.
