New Delhi : Argentina scripted history as they defeated France 4-2 in penalty shootout to win their 3rd World Cup title and Lionel Messi's first at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday. Argentina dominated the game in the first half with Lionel Messi taking the lead at the 23rd minute via penalty shootout. 

With this, Argentina captain became the first player ever to score in Group stage, round of 16 quarter, final, semifinal and final in a single World Cup. 

Moments later, Di Maria scored second goal for Argentina giving a comfortable lead of 2 goals over France. But, it was final and Mbappe on the other side so things were not easy for Argentina.

Kylian Mbappe scored twice within a space of 97 seconds to bring back the France in the game. He scored a penalty in the 8th minute and then soon after his 7th goal of the tournament to keep himself alive for the Golden boot race.

The game later went into 30 minutes of extra time in which both France and Argentina scored one goal each to end the game at 3-3, including the extra name; forcing it to go to penalty shootouts.

In the penalty shootout, Argentina showed its dominance and lift the World Cup with a 4-2 win.
