Delhi : Back in 2015, WhatsApp began providing Android users with the ability to back up their full WhatsApp history directly to Google Drive. Information concerning WhatsApp restricting its limitless storage first appeared a year ago.

Google and WhatsApp both announced today that Google Drive's limitless backup will soon expire. Thus, you can only use the 15GB of shared storage across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos that comes with your Google account to back up your WhatsApp stuff.

Google has said that customers who have a Google Workspace membership through their employer or educational institution would not have any effect on their storage allowance. If you have limited Google Drive capacity, WhatsApp now provides simple chat transfer to different devices without relying on Google Drive.

When does this start to happen?

Beginning in December 2023, this update will be made available to WhatsApp Beta users. It will then progressively be made available to all Android users of WhatsApp in early 2024.
