Harley-Davidson's custom X440s to steal the show at India Bike Week 2023
Delhi : Harley-Davidson plans to debut specially designed motorcycles based on the X440 during the 2023 India Bike Week (IBW) motorcycle event. The Harley-Davidson X440, the brand's most affordable model, debuted earlier this year on the international scene and is produced in India in association with Hero MotoCorp. Harley will have many new X440s on display at IBW 2023 thanks to a partnership with the best custom motorcycle builders in the nation.
The Harley-Davidson India has been using its social media channels to tease the unique builds. The American motorcycle manufacturer has partnered with TNT Motorcycles and Old Delhi Motorcycles from Delhi, Bombay Custom Works from Mumbai, and Rajputana Customs from Jaipur.
Rajputana Customs intends to construct a Harley X440-based scrambler. The motorcycle will have knobby tyres, an aluminium subframe that weighs less, and longer forks for an off-road appearance. Old Delhi Motorcycles, meanwhile, is basing the design of its X440 version on an outlaw motif. With a sidecar, the custom bike maker is giving the roadster a throwback aesthetic.
A Harley X440-based flat tracker with a customised fuel tank, handlebar, exhaust, and new dual-purpose tyres is being built at Bombay bespoke Works chop shop. The frame has been modified to accommodate a flat tracker's requirements. Finally, TNT Motorcycles is constructing a cafe racer with several bespoke components based on the X440. Much effort has gone into the frame, and the bodyline will be "slightly curvy" with classic fat balloon tyres.
In addition to the expert builders, Harley-Davidson India is hosting the Bike Build Off, whereby participants will customise the X440 to create something really special. The roadster needed to be changed, and the builders had fifty days to do it.
A trellis frame supports the basic Harley-Davidson X440, which is powered by a newly built 440 cc air and oil-cooled single-cylinder engine with a peak torque of 38 Nm and 27.6 horsepower. A 6-speed gearbox is matched with the motor. The bike has twin shock absorbers at the back and KYB USD forks up front. twin-channel ABS disc brakes with disc brakes at either end provide braking power. 18-inch alloy front and 17-inch alloy rear wheels power the bike. The weight of the curb is 190.5 kg.
The concept behind custom-built bikes is to demonstrate additional modification or customising choices that buyers can subsequently adapt. The Harley-Davidson X440 began deliveries in October of this year, with 25,000 units reserved in the initial batch. The second batch is now accepting reservations. If the custom X440s receive a favourable reaction, Harley-Hero may consider producing them.
