Delhi : The Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) has been added to Maruti Suzuki's premium SUV, the Grand Vitara. According to the business, this pedestrian safety technology will be available on the SUV's strong hybrid models. With this update, the prices of the aforementioned variants have been raised by Rs 4,000 over the previous ex-showroom rates.

What is the AVAS?

By delivering early alerts regarding the presence of a vehicle, AVAS technology has been created to improve the safety of both drivers and pedestrians. The device works by creating a modest alert sound that can be heard up to five feet away from the car. This function provides an excellent notice to pedestrians and surrounding drivers of the vehicle's presence. As a result, AVAS technology can save lives on the road and becomes an important feature for electric/plug-in electric vehicles, which often generate little to no noise while moving.

What are the new costs?

While the mild hybrid trims of the SUVs will stay unaltered, the strong hybrid trims, Zeta+ and Alpha+, have increased in price by Rs 4,000. Following the price increase, the former will be available for Rs 18.29 lakh, while the flagship Alpha+ variant will be available for Rs 19.79 lakh, all prices ex-showroom.

The top-spec trims are powered by a 1.5-litre, petrol-powered hybrid engine that is connected only to e-CVT for both trims. It has 114 horsepower and 141 Newton-meters of peak torque. The Grand Vitara is essentially a technical cousin of Toyota's Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and it competes with vehicles such as the Hyundai Creta, MG Astor, Kia Seltos, and Skoda Kushaq.
