Delhi : On August 15, 2023, Mahindra & Mahindra will host the five-door Thar's global launch. For the domestic SUV maker, this is the fourth year in a row that new models have made their debuts on the same day. The larger Thar will fight against the recently unveiled five-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny when it goes on sale in India in early 2024.

While the Jimny and the five-door Mahindra Thar will cost more, their features and target markets indicate that they will really be in the same buying dialogue. Compared to the current three-door model, the future off-road SUV will serve a wider range of consumers since it will be more useful.

Mahindra added the RWD model to the Thar earlier this year, expanding its lineup. The booking volume is significant because to its aggressive price, however the waiting time is currently up to 18 months. Before releasing the five-door Thar, Mahindra may try to shorten the 4WD Thar's wait time, which is now slightly over a month.

Because it will be longer, broader, and maybe somewhat higher than the three-door version, the five-door Mahindra Thar will have greater proportions. In order to fit more passengers inside, the wheelbase length will also be extended, as will the boot size. However, the outside design modifications will be minimal, and the cabin could get additional amenities.

The well-known 2.2L four-cylinder mHawk diesel and the 2.0L four-cylinder mStallion petrol engines will be carried over from the three-door variant in terms of performance. While a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox is an option, they will be connected to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. There may be no introduction of the 1.5L diesel featured in the RWD version.

The five-door Mahindra Thar will ride on a modified ladder frame chassis and probably share a lot with the Scorpio N, particularly in terms of mechanics. The feature list will essentially be the same as that of its three-door sister, although fresh additions are also anticipated.
