Delhi : In the second quarter of this year, India saw a 120 percent increase in electric cars (EVs), led by a 400 percent increase in hybrid vehicles, according to a research released on Monday. According to a survey by Cyber Media Research (CMR), the adoption of linked and digital cockpit elements has reached 60 percent in passenger cars and assistance systems (ADAS) have swiftly increased by 350 percent (year over year).

New, cheaper versions, like the MG Comet EV from MG Motors, were introduced, which sped up the acceptance of EVs.

According to John Martin, senior analyst-smart mobility practice, CMR, auto original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are concentrating on releasing electric vehicles with Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which include practical features like adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and automated lane changes.

Additionally, the usage of linked and intelligent cockpits in automobiles is expanding. According to Martin, these developments are boosting intelligent transportation and environmental sustainability in addition to improving consumer safety.

OEMs like Toyota Kirloskar, Maruti Suzuki, and Honda Motors were responsible for the impressive increase in demand for hybrid vehicles. According to the report, smart linked features were included in over 90% of EV sales in Q2 2023, while about 15% of hybrid vehicles had digital cockpits.

Over 5% of passenger vehicles are anticipated to be entirely electric and outfitted with ADAS technologies by the end of this year. According to the survey, advanced connectivity and digital cockpit features are expected to account for 40% of the industry.
