Mahindra Thar 2WD is coming soon - here's what to know

Delhi : A new cost-effective model of the Mahindra Thar could be coming shortly. An SUV-specific 1.5-liter diesel engine is apparently being developed by the business. The brand-new engine will be added to the lineup, which already includes a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine and a 2.2-liter diesel engine. The reasonably priced Mahindra Thar 2WD is rumored to arrive in the nation in January 2023.

At a recent event in Igatpuri, Maharashtra, the 1.5 diesel engine-powered Mahindra Thar was on display. The same 1,497cc engine that drives the Mahindra Marazzo at the moment will be used in this vehicle. A 117hp power output is claimed for the engine.

A five-speed manual transmission is anticipated to be the engine's transmission partner in the Mahindra Thar 2WD. The automated model won't exist though.

There have lately been spy images of the forthcoming SUV. The low-range gear lever on the centre console was replaced with a brand-new storage console. The SUV will weigh less than the current Thar models as it will feature a 2WD system rather than a 4WD system and a smaller engine.

The 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine of the Thar SUV is also anticipated to come in a 2WD version by Mahindra & Mahindra. Similar to the impending 1.5-liter diesel 2WD, the Thar 2.0 petrol 2WD is said to only have a six-speed manual transmission.

A five-door Thar SUV variant is also being developed by the business in the meantime. The SUV's test model had a hard top with closed lines, which may have been a sign that the future Thar model will have a sunroof. The updated Thar is anticipated to make its debut at the Auto Expo 2023 in January of next year, along with vehicles like as the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door and the Force Gurkha 5-door.

The 5-door Thar will be around 4.3 metres longer than the 3-door version, which is 4 metres long. The Mahindra Scorpio N is 4.7 metres long, for comparison. The five-door Thar car's height and length might not change.
